Moving Forward in Life with High Interest Rates

Renting

Making the Decision to Buy

Hollis & Melissa first met in Seattle. Hollis’s place was an apartment in the lively center of Ballard, and Melissa lived in a secluded, homey abode in Beacon Hill. Her cozy, south Seattle home was a perfect match for moving into together. Their Seattle bungalow was relatively private for a being in a big city, with a backyard oasis and surrounding land. For Hollis, these amenities were particularly desirable after many years of being in the thick of an urban environment.

Their first place was an ideal rental for their lifestyle but it wasn’t long before they decided to buy a home together.

The Big Decision

Lifestyle is Important

Although the timing was right for them to purchase a home together, it wasn’t the best timing regarding mortgage interest rates. When they began their home search, interest rates were more than several points above the lowest they had been just months before.

Melissa and Hollis understood that high interest rates would raise their monthly mortgage payment. Although waiting was an option, they felt the time was right to stop throwing money to a landlord and put their cash towards their future. As savvy investors, they knew owning real estate was an investment that would surely pay off one day financially and it would also immediately start paying off in the form of supporting a more fulfilling life together.

Rising Interest Rates

Other Factors to Consider

Other reasons Hollis & Melissa decided to pursue their Dream of Homeownership during a High Interest Real Estate Market.

  1. Dropping home prices.
  2. Less competition and bidding wars.
  3. Better negotiation tools for buyers.
  4. The plan to refinance down the road when interest rates drop.

Pre-Approved

The Hunt for a Home is on!

When Hollis and Melissa first mentioned they were about to start house-hunting, a friend referred them to Salmon Bay Community Lending. Their friend, having gone from renter to homebuyer with Salmon Bay by her side, was confident that Ruby Grynberg was an ideal home loan advisor to guide them through their purchase from pre-approval to the closing.  The fact that communication is a top priority at Salmon Bay Community Lending was a driving force behind the referral.

They eventually found the perfect home in Poulsbo. A cozy community outside Seattle connected to the mainland via a 30-minute ferry from Bainbridge Island! They timed their search for a new home perfectly, as an ideal match awaited them!

Although several offers came in for the home, bidding was still less competitive than in previous months. In addition, the limited number of potential buyers prevented an escalation war, and seller-buyer negotiations were on their side!

Now after several seasons in their new home, they have no regrets. On the contrary, owning a home is a comfortable & rewarding place to plan for their future.
